Why Project Pathfinder
Rediscovering the fun in technology, one understandable system at a time.
I started Project Pathfinder because I wanted to remember why I fell in love with technology in the first place.
Somewhere along the way, I had started to doubt what I knew. There was always another tool to learn, another thing I felt I should already understand. I wanted to get back to the part I enjoyed: being curious, trying things, and seeing something work because I had built it.
Pathfinder gives me somewhere to do that. A place to refresh old skills, learn new ones and build something I can be proud of. Something I can explain, take apart, improve and put back together when it goes wrong. Which, of course, it sometimes does.
Small enough to understand
The aim is a platform I can understand from end to end. I want to know why each piece is there, what depends on it, and how I would recover it.
That means using the hardware I already have, writing things down, and taking the time to understand a problem before adding another tool. It also means leaving room to play. There should be space for experiments that exist simply because I want to find out how something works.
Something worth sharing
I want to share the decisions, the mistakes and the little moments when something finally clicks. Those are the bits I tend to learn from when other people write about their projects.
If Pathfinder helps me find a new opportunity, build something useful or encourage someone else to have a go, that would be wonderful. But the first person this project needs to help is me.
It is a reminder that learning can be enjoyable, that confidence can grow through doing, and that tech is still fun.
There is always another experiment. 🖖
